Title: Automatic reconnect of client??
Post by cmoz on Feb 24th, 2006, 3:16am
I'm currently testing USB over Network Server/Client in our  company's production environment.

The USB port on a physical server shares an USB dongle with USB over Network Server (currently trial version).

A Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition running on ESX Server (VMWare) has the USB over Network Client installed, and connects to the USB dongle which is vital for software it uses.

In case the Server/PC that runs the USB over Network Server crashes and reboots, it can be set to automatically share the USB device automatially at boot up.

Is there any way to set the USB over Network Client to automatically reconnect to the USB over Network Server, or in a certain interval poll the USB over Network Server an reconnect when it is up again?

Or are there any plans made for implementing it in a later version??

This would be a great addition in case the server, that shares the USB, restarts or is down for maintenance.

Current 2.1.5 verion of USB over Network hasn't auto reconnect feature yet. We plan to add it in the next program versions. Today there is only way to reconnect USB device on USB over Network Client side at system startup i.e. when client side computer is rebooted.

Thanks for the quick reply Andrew.  :)

It looks like USB over Network will be our choice for solving our USB dongle 'problem' in ESX server, instead of a much more expensive hardware solution.

Until the feature is added, I just have to set procedures in montion, in case server that runs USB over Network Server is restarted.
